Academic Integrity

Academic integrity means honesty and responsibility in scholarship. Students and faculty alike must obey rules of honest scholarship, which means that all academic work should result from an individual's own efforts.

Understanding Plagarism

Plagiarism is presenting another person’s ideas, words, or entire work as your own.

Plagiarism can take a number of forms.

  • Copying a published or unpublished text of any length, whether deliberately or accidentally, is plagiarism if you don’t give credit to the source.
  • Paraphrasing someone’s ideas or arguments or copying someone’s unique wording without giving proper credit is plagiarism.
  • Turning in a paper or thesis written by someone else, even if you paid for it, is plagiarism.

Annotated Bibliographies

An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
